BARNES HALL Dahlonega, Georgia
Barnes Hall was originally constructed as the cadet's dormitory at North Georgia College. It was originally funded as part of FDR's "New Deal" in 1939. Over the years as the College's needs changed the building was converted into faculty offices, classrooms and testing rooms. This project sought to convert the building back to a single (office) use. The Historic character of the building was restored with the removal of anachronistic elements, rehabilitation of the structural system, repairing & stabilizing building waterproofing systems, restoring exterior finishes and re-establishing original circulation patterns. The sensitive division of significant existing spaces allows the original building configuration to be understood. This project was completed under the guidelines of the State Stewardship program as administered by the State Historic Preservation Office. |
